ROSARY TEAM MINISTRY

The Rosary Team ministry began in our parish in response to Our Blessed Mother’s plea at Fatima in October, 1917, for prayer for peace, especially the Rosary.  The Church has accepted the message of Fatima above all because it contains a truth and a call whose basic content is the truth and the call of the Gospel itself.  It is a message of conversion and repentance, as is the Gospel, and the call to repentance is linked, as always, with a call to prayer.  Pope John Paul II told those gathered at Fatima in 1982 that, in harmony with the tradition of many centuries, the Lady of the Fatima message indicates the Rosary, which can rightly be defined as “Mary’s Prayer,” is the prayer in which she feels particularly united with us.

Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, now Pope Francis, wrote in 1985 that, during a recitation of the Rosary led by Pope John Paul II, he came to understand the presence of Mary in the life of this holy pope and, since that day, he has recited all the mysteries of the Rosary daily. Recent popes have spoken with sadness about the suffering and evil that is spreading menacingly throughout the world, but they have also rejoiced with hope when they affirm faith in the redemption of the world, in the saving Love that is always stronger and more powerful than evil.   They remind us that Mary’s appeal is not for just once; her request must be taken up by generation after generation, in accordance with the ever new “signs of the times.”

The Rosary Team ministry provides parishioners the opportunity to unite spiritually in this efficacious prayer, by combining their assigned decade with those of others while offering their team’s Rosary for a specific, monthly intention.  There are no meetings, no phone calls, and no correspondence, other than that necessary initially to assign a decade.

A team is made up of five people.  Each person prays his assigned decade (one Our Father, ten Hail Marys, and one Glory Be) each day.  The decade (and thus the whole Rosary) is offered by each member for the intention particular to the month (included monthly in the Bulletin).  If members would like to know the others on the team, we can share this information, but no contact is required.  To join a team, all one needs to do is complete the form below and send it to the address included or call the parish office at (530) 527-1351.  We will be in touch with you.

The Rosary, though clearly Marian in character, is at heart a Christocentric prayer. In the sobriety of its elements, it has all the depth of the Gospel message in its entirety, of which it can be said to be a compendium. It is an echo of the prayer of Mary, her perennial Magnificat for the work of the redemptive Incarnation which began in her virginal womb. With the Rosary, the Christian people sits at the school of Mary and is led to contemplate the beauty on the face of Christ and to experience the depths of his love. Through the Rosary the faithful receive abundant grace, as though from the very hands of the Mother of the Redeemer.
